Make This Better
Artists over at Broken City Labs have hooked up a temporary typographic installation that simple reads “Make this better”. The concept is fairly overt. Scary place along a generally nicer place – queue artist installation that makes us think about ownership and improving our surroundings. What I found particularly compelling was the power of type and its juxtaposition in an environment where it seems to have migrated naturally. Almost as if the conditions are communicating directly to us. Words require an immediate interaction whereas our natural habitat tends to blend into complacency. If we pass an abandoned house on our way to work everyday that house becomes a part of our accepted surroundings but if there was a gigantic reflective letter-form sitting on the porch of that abandoned house that read “I AM SAD, EMPTY AND DANGEROUS”, we would be much more likely to focus on taking action. So, given this new-found understanding of the power that words can hold I plan on breeding a new clan of Letter People to assist with my artistic bidding. Word.

The power of the written word is never to be underestimated. This is absolutely excellent and yes, inspiring.
where is this located? I can think of many spots this might be of benefit to Raleigh/Durham. I am sure there might be some legal ramifications from the landlords (gotta love that tag…land LORDS)
